Road To Saint Brevin

After a successful night of free camping we were awoken by the car horn of the local baker who does bread runs to the campers. We got 2 fresh baguettes....still warm! Not a bad way to start the morning. We packed up and hit road again bound for St Brevin for another night of free camping.
Our first port of call was to stop and see Mont St Michel. It has stood since the 6th century and has been used as a Roman Stronghold, a prison, a monastery and numerous other things. On the road out we saw it in the distance but it's not until you get close up that you realise how mammoth a structure this thing is and why they built it the way they did. It is surrounded my marsh and quick sand....quicksand that nearly claimed Jake's thongs. It would have been nearly impossible for any enemy force to even get close to it.
We wandered the grounds and climbed a million steps on our way to the top. We went through the abbey and witnessed a church service in progress. From the top you can see for miles on all sides, which again makes you realise how safe you would have felt inside the city walls.
After having some lunch in the van we hit the road bound for Saint-Nazaire. We found what we thought was good spot to free camp at St Brevin. When we arrived there was another camper there having dinner. But after they ate they packed up and drove off leaving us by ourselves. We then did not feel as safe and seeing there was an abandoned building covered in graffiti just up the road we decided to move spots. We found a good spot with 4 or 5 other campers. We pretty much parked up and set up the beds for a good nights sleep and apart from a few people walking passed the car park it was another successful night without charge.

  1. So glad you got to go to Le Mont. It's such a beautiful part of the world. We had a great time there.
