Road To Utah Beach

Today we leave Paris on the way back up to the coast. We left at 10am hoping to miss all the morning traffic....but we had a few issues with the NavMan.....helps if you don't have it on pedestrian mode. Not sure why it thought that we would want to walk 300kms but never mind. So we spent the first hour just trying to get out of Paris WITHOUT a decent map. It wasn't till we were 4 hours into the journey that we finally realised why the NavMan wasn't working. Once we were back on track the destination was Normandy. We got as far as Utah Beach and found a carpark on the beach that was full of fellow campers. As this was our first real night of free camping we thought that safety in numbers was a good thing. We set up camp and went for a walk to the beach. 6th June 1944 was the date that American forces landed on thr coast of Normandy to take on the German forces that had invaded France. This was basically the reason the 2nd World War came to and end, known as D-day.
Walking along the beach at 10pm when the sun had just gone down and not a single person around was a very dawnting and humbling experience.
