The Open, Turnberry

Train, bus, plane, train, train, bus, train, bus....just to get to Turnberry. As we planned to go to the championship days, it was very dissapointing to get there and for Tiger Woods to not make the cut. But at the same time it was good to see Tom Watson, who is nearly 60 leading the way. The first day we decided to find a ghood spot in the stands on the 1st tee to watch the top 20 or so players tee off. We saw John Daly, Sergio Garcia, V J Singh, Matt Goggin and many more. When Tom Watson came out it was pretty cool to see the ovation he received, definitely the sentimental favourite and seeing as though there was no Tiger, the obvious choice for the US fans. I’m sure we would have made it onto TV if anyone was up watching it. After sitting on the 1st for about 2 hours we decided to wander the course. Matty Goggin was doing really well so we decided to follow him for a bit and show our Aussie support. We went to the 18th and watched the last few groups put out their rounds and then it was time to head back into Glasgow for a shower and a few beers.
The next day we were up early after a rather late night....and back on a train and then bus to get to Turnberry. We found a good spot on the 5th green Par 3 in the stands and sat for a while watching the tee shots onto the green. We then headed back to the 1st to follow Matty and Tom Watson as the were the final group. Unfortunately Matty Goggin felt the pressure and crashed out ending up tying for 4th place. It was also a shame to see Tom Watson bogey the final hole which sent him into a play off with Stewart Cink which he ended up loosing. Over all though it was a great weekend and very glad that i did it...
We caught a the bus back to London, i said good bye to Steve and the jumped on a plane back to Nice and the nice warm weather!
