Rome (Day 1), Italy

We managed to be on the road at 8.30am. Only 250km’s till Rome. It turned out to be a nice relaxing drive and we were at the campsite by 1pm after a stop for lunch on the way. But it wouldn’t have been a Sarsha travel day without something happening. With about 1 1/2 hours left to drive Jo who was sitting shotgun with me screamed out in shock and pain. I nearly swerved off the road thinking that i must have missed some crazy italian driver who had crossed the centre of the freeway and was coming straight for us!. She went straight for her foot and there was a european wasp sitting on there. It had taken three bites of her leg after flying in the window and the casually left the same way. I have never been stung myself but the pain is apparently like red hot needles being stuck into your flesh. After a few tears, some balsamic vinegar (all we had) and then a lemon ice block (all we could get) to keep it cool the pain went away and Jo was back to her old self within an hour or so.

Once we arrived at camp we decided not to do any sight seeing today and just relax at camp. This gave us a chance to catch up on washing and also recharge our own batteries. We had a swim in the pool and had a lovely van cooked meal.
Gene and Steve had also come to Rome and decided to stay at the same campsite. After dinner we had a few drinks with them and again it was another later night that anticipated by some.
