Rome (Day 2), Italy
We thought that seeing as though Rome has so many things to see we would catch the open top sightseeing bus which allows you to hop on and off at the attractions. We got into Rome by 9am and where on the bus by 9.30am. The plan was to do an entire loop and then pick 2 or 3 things to see today and then see Vatican city the next day along with all the things we missed on the first day. The loop only took 2 hours and once we hopped off at the the Trevi fountain and where able to walk back to the Coliseum quite quickly we realised that perhaps the bus tour was a waste of time and that the 48 hours tickets we had purchased would not be used.
Trevi fountain was packed which was to be expected. We grabbed some lunch from there and headed towards the Coliseum. Along the way we found the Pantheon. From there We did the coliseum. Not as big as i had imagined after watching Gladiator but no less impressive. We wandered around there for about an hour imagining all the horrible things that had taken place in the area over the years it was in use.
After this Aims and Jake decided to head back to camp as Jake’s camera battery had died and would come back the next day to see everything. Jo and I continued on and wandered Palatine Hill and Roman Forum for about 2 hours. From there we walked back the Rome past the Venetian Palace. We then walked to the Spanish steps, had some cheap pizza and lasagne at a restaurant near Piazza Barbarini. We finished the night off with another look at Trevi fountain, still as busy as we left it 7 hours earlier but it aloud me to take some great night shots. We headed home via train at 9.30pm got the last transfer back to the campsite at 10.30pm and back at Sarsha at 11pm. After 14 hours sightseeing and probably 10 hours of constant walking it was time for bed to recharge the batteries ready to do it all over again tomorrow.
(I can only put 5 pics per post so the next few posts are all from day 2 in Rome. Enjoy!)
